Open Access and Open Source Legal AI
Some Legal AI tools may offer open access to everyone, (such as Ƶ) in order to reduce the size of the gap between those who want legal assistance in some form, and those who can afford it. While Ƶ is geared for commercial uses (and there is a known and well documented group in need of more affordable legal services here), there will no doubt be open access Legal AI tools for a wider range of users and use cases coming in 2025.
Open source Legal AI models could help to address concerns about bias and fairness by allowing for greater scrutiny of the algorithms and training data.
We believe that any open access to legal training datasets will raise concerns about data privacy and security. Further research on computational privacy is a must here.
